Buhari and his WAEC Certificate Palava

During the electioneering year, a challenge was placed before the then APC flag bearer now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari questioning his academic eligibility to contest the election. It was said that he was unqualified because he had no WAEC result or moreso questioning the authenticity of the result presented. A legal practitioner in Abuja, Nnamdi Nwokwocha-Ahaaiwe alleged that Buhari was unqualified to be the number one citizen.

To my amazement, I wondered why 13 Senior Advocates of Nigeria were engaged to represent him in this certificate saga. The names of Buhari`s legal team included Chief Wole Olanipekun, Lateef O. Fagbemi, Chief Akin Olujinmi, Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, Kola Awodein, Prof. Taiwo Osipitan, Charles Edosomwan, Emeka Ngige, Femi Atoyebi, Femi Falana, Funke Aboyade, H.O. Afolabi, Muiz Banire and 10 other counsels.

Nigerians and the entire world wondered why Buhari would assemble such a team of heavyweights and big wig lawyers to defend him on a mere case of proving that he sat for the examination and was academically qualified. It brings to mind that integrity matters a lot, and if that has been the watchword of the President, let us allow justice, fairness and equity to reign.
