When Nigeria gained independence in 1960, Nigerians jubilated, the continent of Africa also celebrated and wished us well. Little did my people know that the citizens of Nigeria were just sentenced to a lifetime of oppression. It has always baffled me how a group of depraved souls could be so self-centered. Fifty-six years later, the livelihood of an average Nigerian has been exacerbated. Naira has been devalued, the economy has turned upside down. Yet, the generational looters and their family are living comfortably. In most cases, these looters use the commonwealth stolen from the masses to oppress the masses, which is what I call pure wickedness.
This continuity of the generational sad story must end. The buck stops here. We the youths have witnesses out forefathers and foremothers struggle. We have also witnessed our parents struggle only because of the self-centered leaders that we have continued to vote for. These are the same men and women that travel abroad; own properties in Europe, USA, and Middle East; they send their offsprings to the best schools abroad. They drive around waving and smiling as if things are under control in the country. Unfortunately, poverty and hoplessness allow the citizens to smile back, even though inside they are crying. The people have been bought, sold and abused by the same government that has been set up to serve them. The good news is that Nigerians have woken up. and are more engaged than before. There is no denying it, the people deserve better. If the leaders won’t serve the masses as expected, then the masses must vote them out of office.
