Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina; A Man of His Words

Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina; A Man of His Words

While the people of Oyo State have not being impressed with the Executive Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who made history by becoming the first politician to win a second term as the incumbent governor of Oyo State. Hon Dapo Lam-Adesina has displayed great qualities of what it takes to be a true leader. One of the fascinating things about DLA is his hands-on approach. His office is in Abuja, but he frequently returns home to Oyo State to attend to his constituency by serving the people of Ibadan North East and South East Federal Constituency. The people are grateful and happy to see DLA’s leadership style. There is still hope that some of our leaders are truly serving the people that voted for them. We hope to see more politicians in leadership position implement projects that will positively impact their constituencies.

Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina, a great example of the leaders that the Nigerian people need.
Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina, a great example of the leaders that the Nigerian people need.

June 9th, 2016 made it one year since Hon. Adedapo Lam Adesina, won the mandate to represent the good people of Ibadan South East/North East Federal constituency of Oyo State at the National Assembly. On June 9, 2015,Omo Oloore began the political journey with a vision, and one year on, the people he represents, can attest to the fact that the young lawmaker has matched his words with actions, as well as his electoral promises with fulfillment. While canvassing for votes, Hon Dapo-Lam, promised to pay the people back with healthy and robust representation at the National Assembly while He also promised to ameliorate the people’s sufferings by providing water, electricity, youth employment and empowerment, educational support and legislative actions that would better their lives.

It would be recalled that critics and cynics held those promises were the usual words spewed by politicians to “scam” the people and “steal” their votes – the usual practice in the past. They bet the young lawmaker would go the way of others before him – get the votes, sit in Abuja and come back in another four years to beg for more. But who would blame the pessimists and the doubters. Ideal representation has eluded the people in the past. So, bearing this in mind, and rightly guided by his well-formulated political vision, Hon. Adesina set out to prove critics wrong. He started this by “not sitting in Abuja and planning to come back home in four years time”.

REGULAR HOME COMING AND REGULAR CONSULTATION

Hon. Adesina has in the last year represented the people in Abuja but always came home to feel their pulse, making regular consultation and collaboration his leadership style. That way, he knew exactly what the people wanted; he wore the same shoe with them and knew where it pinched.

His open door policy was the reason he opened two constituency offices at Atipe and Ile Titun, where the people could come and air their minds. There, he openly heard from those who praised, those who criticized him and those who always came to “ask for more”, He then backed it up with Regular Consultation/Collaboration with the Community Development Council (CDC) in both Ibadan South East and Ibadan North East Local Governments. He also conducted regular consultation with the Peoples Parliament at Yidi in Ibadan North East Local Government, just to mention a few.

ACCOUNTABILITY TOWN HALL MEETINGS

Hon. Adesina became the first federal lawmaker to hold an Accountability Town Hall meeting in Oyo State since democracy returned to the country in 1999. The historic meeting was tagged “Meet Omo Oloore”.

YOUTH EMPLOYMENT / EMPOWERMENT WITH TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT WORTH OVER N30 MILLION

The people of Ibadan South East/North East Federal constituency have lost count of the number of empowerment initiatives and activities carried out by Hon. Adesina, through his Omo Oloore Empowerment scheme. He kept on calling them back for one empowerment programme or the other. The scheme has trained and empowered over 300 constituents with Professional Start-up equipment (Sewing machines, Grinding machines, Motorcycles and Bajaj tricycles) worth over N30 million.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT/DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

Hon Adesina’s personal quest to see the development of the younger generation, coupled with a rich legacy left behind by his late father, a renowned educationist and former governor of Oyo state, Alhaji Lamidi Onolapo Adesina, puts him at the fore-front of educational empowerment among his political peers.

He also carried out the construction of 8-room Modern toilet for public use at Iso Adiye Market, Molete.

SOCIAL AMENITIES – ELECTRICITY AND WATER PROJECTS IN SEVEN AREAS IN THE CONSTITUENCY

During his campaigns, Hon. Adesina after making promises, vowed to execute water projects across the two local government’s he represents, many did not take him serious until now, when they can look around and see seven water projects scattered across the two local governments covering Ile Titun(Ibadan S/E), Oja Igbo (Ibadan N/E), Ode Ige (Ibadan S/E), Agodi Gate (Ibadan N/E), Aremo (Ibadan N/E), Labo (Ibadan S/E), Olorunsogo,Felele (Ibadan S/E). SPORTS/SPORTING FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT

Dapo-Lam’s achievement as Commissioner of Sports, before his election as a lawmaker, still reverberates in the sector. That passion followed him to his legislative business, prompting him to extend his developmental programmes to sports. He started two football tournaments – the Dapo Lam-Adesina Champions League Football Competition, (A U-25 Age Grade Football Tournament with 16 clubs within Ibadan North East and the Dapo Lam-Adesina Football Competition at Oke-Badan High School. He also gave financial Support to Oyo State Markets Football Competition

FORMATION/ SUPPORT ON DEVELOPMENTAL BILLS

While effectively supporting his people at home, Hon. Adesina maintains a firm grip of his legislative agenda. Some of his moves in the House of Representatives include:

  •         Co-sponsoring a Motion with the House Leader on the need to declare a State of Emergency on Youth Unemployment in Nigeria
  •         Supporting a motion for the commencement of Operation at Ibadan Dry Port, which had been completed since 2014 but still not operational
  •         Presenting a petition of Pension shortchanging on behalf of a constituent who is a Federal Pensioner, retired in 1987 after 34 years in service
  •         Seconding a motion on the need to transform the Ihunekwagu cave in Enugu to a Tourist Destination. “I am motivated to do more”, is a statement that has roundly been credited to Hon. Dapo Lam-Adesina each time he spoke at his empowerment events. He has promised not to limit his programmes and philanthropic gestures to youths, women, education and sports. He has promised to touch the life of the Aged, Widows and people with special needs during his second year. The last one-year has been quite eventful, the people have been asked to brace up for another superb year from Hon Adedapo Lam Adesina a.k.a Omo Oloore.
